Guru Nanak - 1469 - 1539. The teachings of Guru Nanak are codified into a book called Adi Granth, is the holy book of the Sikhs.
Guru Angad - 1539 - 1552 (Popularised Gurumukhi script)
Guru Amardas - 1552 - 1574
Guru Ramdas - 1574 - 1581 built the city of Amritsar at a place donated by Akbar
Guru Arjun Dev - 1581 - 1606 built Golden Temple at Amritsar, compiled Granth Sahib or Adi Granth, killed by Jahangir for giving asylum to Prince Khusru.
Guru Har Gobind - 1606 - 1649 built Akal Takht, the throne of Almighty.
Guru Har Raj - 1649 - 1661 supported Dara's claim to the throne.
Guru Har Kishan 1661 - 1664
Guru Tej Bahadur - 1664 - 1675 killed by Aurangazeb
Guru Gobind Singh - 1675 - 1708 set up Khalsa at Anantapur Saheb.
