Arab Invasion
  • The first Arab invasion to India was made by Muhammad Bin Quasin in 712AD. He invaded Sind in AD 712.
  • This resulted in the increasing trade and cultural exchange between the Arab and the Indians.
Turkish Invasion
  • Sultan Muhammad (997-1030 AD) ruler of Ghazni in Afghanisstan attacked India 17 times between 1001 AD and 1026 with the aim of spreading Islam in India and to enrich himself with the wealth of India.
  • In 1025 AD, he attacked and destroyed the famous Somnath temple in Kathiawar coast in Gujarat.
  • The famous Persian Poet Firdausi who wrote ‘Shahnama’lived in his court.
  • Firdaausi is known as ‘Indian Homer,Persian Homer and The immortal Homer of the East.
  • Al-baruni (Historian0 belonged to the court of Muhammad Guzni.
Attack of Muhammad Ghori
  • Ghori was a small kingdom in north west Afghanisthan. Muhammad Ghori (1175-1206) the ruler of Ghori was attracted to the weak kingdom of India. In 1190, he had captured Peshwar,Lahore and Sialkot.

  • The first battle of Tarrain in 1191 was between Ghori and Prithviraj Chauhan. Ghori was defeated , But in the second battle of Tarrain in 1192 AD,Muhammad defeated Prithviraj and captured Delhi. He retured to Ghori agter entrusting the affairs of India to his trusted slave Qutb-ud-din-Aibak.Thus Muhammad Ghori is considered as the founder of Muslim rule in India. Te second battle of Tarrain laid the foundation for the Muslim rule in India.

  • After the death of Ghori in 1206, Qutub-ub-din Aibak founded the Slave dynasty.
