Aurangazeb assumed the title Alamgir in 1659. He ruled for about 50 years till his death in 1707 at Ahmednagar.
He was called as Zinda Pir or the Living Saint.
Shivaji was a contemporary of Aurangazeb. Sambaji, Shivaji's son was executed in 1689 by Aurangazeb.
His ablest general was Mir Jumla.
Aurgangazeb was intolerant towards other religions. He re-imposed the tax Jaziya on non-Muslims.
He abolished the festival 'Naurus'.
Aurangazeb captured and executed the 9th Sikh Guru Tej Bahadur in 1675, when he refused to embrace Islam.
The only monument associated with Aurangazeb is Bibi ka Makbara which is the tomb of his wife Rabbia-ud-daura in Aurangabad.
Aurangazeb was the last great Mughal ruler.
Bahadur Shah assumed the title for 'Shah Alam I'.
Muhammad Shah (1719-49) : During his reign Nadir Shah invaded India and took away the Peacock Throne and the Kohinoor Diamond.
Shah Alam II (1759-1806) : During his reign the Battle of Buxar (1764) was fought.
Bahadur Shah II (1837-1862) : the last Mughal King. During the revolt of 1857, he was proclaimed the Emperor of India. He was deported to Rangoon following the 1857 rebellion.
